Being part of the Indonesian nation is a matter of pride. Why is that? Because Indonesia is an archipelago with a million different colors of landscape, biodiversity and a diverse society with hundreds of indigenous tribes and regional languages.
In this month of our beloved country’s birthday, let us explore together the uniqueness of our country in geographical, ecological, and social aspects.
1. DIVERSITY OF NATURAL LANDSCAPES AND RARE NATURAL PHENOMENA
Due to its location between the Pacific and Indian Oceans, Indonesia has a wide diversity of climates and biospheres stretching from Sabang to Merauke. Indonesia has a diverse landscape, from tropical rainforests on the island of Borneo, seasonal forests producing wood and forest products in Java, to savannas that stretch across the plains of the Nusa Tenggara islands. This is certainly different from other countries that only have one or two types of landscapes.
Indonesia also has several natural phenomena that are considered unique, one of which is Lake Toba, which is the largest volcanic lake on earth. Lake Toba has an area of about 100×30 square kilometers, with a depth of 505 meters. Indonesia also has a three-colored lake, namely Telaga Kelimutu in the province of East Nusa Tenggara.
We can find many beautiful natural uniquenesses and of course it is very suitable for us to enjoy as nature tourism, of course with various efforts to maintain the beauty and sustainability of the natural appearance.
2. HOME TO TENS TO HUNDREDS OF ENDEMIC SPECIES OF FLORA AND FAUNA
The diversity of climate and landscape in Indonesia makes its land beautiful and suitable for various species of native flora and fauna to live in. Based on estimates from various biologists, there are around 165 species of mammals, 397 birds, 150 reptiles, and 100 amphibians that are endemic or can only be found in Indonesia.
Animals that we have certainly heard of often, namely the anoa, the one-horned rhinoceros, and the bird of paradise, are some examples of the hundreds of species of living creatures native to the Indonesian archipelago.
3. HAS ABUNDANT NATURAL RESOURCES POTENTIAL
The diversity of landscapes also contributes to the abundant natural wealth in the form of agricultural products, forest products, and mining materials. Indonesia is an archipelago located in the ‘ring of fire’, namely in a series of volcanoes.
Of course, with dozens of volcanoes in the Indonesian archipelago, it provides a lot of potential mining products in the form of high-value minerals and rocks. Indonesia also has one of the largest gold mines in the world, namely the Grasberg mine on the island of Papua. In addition, thanks to the volcanic soil spread across the islands, Indonesia is fertile and suitable for planting various crops.
4. THE LARGEST ISLAND COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, INHABITED BY HUNDREDS OF TRIBES
INDONESIA is home to hundreds of indigenous tribes of the archipelago. Namely, there are 742 indigenous tribes with their respective regional languages. The largest number of these tribes is in Papua, which is inhabited by 270 indigenous Papuan tribes. This greatly contributes to the cultural potential of Indonesia, making this country unique in terms of ethnic diversity and regional languages.
5. ONE OF THE LARGEST OXYGEN CONTRIBUTORS ON EARTH
One of the lungs of the world is located in the islands of Borneo. The island of Borneo has one of the tropical rainforests that supplies oxygen needs on earth. Based on research conducted by Forest Watch Indonesia (FWI), Indonesia ranks in the top three for the largest forests in the world. Our task now is of course to help maintain the beauty of the forest and the environment, so that the beauty of our forests is not replaced by barren plains.
Well , those are 5 unique things about Indonesia that make Indonesia unique and different from other countries. Hopefully we will always strive to maintain these unique things. Hopefully it will be useful!
