Start your digital detox with these outdoor escapes
By Cameron Bayley Presented by Discovery Parks
As we are spending more time on our phones, it’s no wonder Aussies are increasingly opting for a digital detox, choosing to switch off and then take off.
Discovery Parks make exploring the real-life landscapes so much more fun than the digital one. Take your pick and the only chats that’ll take up your time are the ones around the campfire.
Back to nature
Nothing puts life back into perspective better than getting out into nature. Spending time amongst the rainforests of NSW’s Crowdy Bay National Park (make your base at Discovery Parks – Harrington Beach) or Australia’s iconic red centre (make Discovery Resorts – Kings Canyon your base) is guaranteed to make everything on your phone screen look so, so small.
When winter hits the southern states, that’s when many hear the call of sunny Queensland, which offers such an array of terrific beaches. Stay at the likes of Discovery Parks – Fraser Street, Hervey Bay or Discovery Parks – Bargara and see these beaches for yourself. It’s hard to beat a walk along the surf before a seafood dinner before tucking in for the night, and waking to the sound of the ocean, not your alarm.
Make it fine
One of the best things about Australia is that it’s really easy to take a well-deserved break and make it something special, without breaking the bank.
Case in point: glamping. It’s a fantastic option that makes getting out of the city an experience to relish. Picture enjoying a glass of red at your safari tent amidst the vineyards of Discovery Parks – Barossa Valley or having some fresh oysters under the stars at Discovery Parks – Coffin Bay on SA’s Eyre Peninsula. This is how you rough it, without the rough edges. All you’ll need your phone for is snapping some pics to make everyone at home jealous.
Getting hectic, holiday style
Don’t forget the fun stuff. The Aussie terrain lends itself to some cool activities and experiences. Take a break from scrolling through your friends’ holiday snaps and take some of your own as you get out and explore.
And you can be as energetic or relaxed as you like, take a gentle paddle at Discovery Parks – Lake Bonney, kayak in the pristine Nitmiluk Gorge and then unwind at Discovery Parks – Katherine, or amp things up at Discovery Parks – Airlie Beach by jet-skiing around the beautiful Whitsundays, or enjoy horseback riding in Horseshoe Bay and then stay at Discovery Parks – Townsville.
Stay somewhere great
Discovery Parks large network of locations across Australia means everyone can get a taste of what’s on offer. Whether you’re after a cosy cabin by the Murray River at Discovery Parks – Echuca or a relaxing stay at Discovery Parks – Narooma Beach listening to the waves break at Handkerchief Bay on the NSW south coast; or take a tent or campervan to enjoy Discovery Parks – Bright, a wine-and-cheese lover’s happy place.
Holidays like these provide enriching experiences and the chance to make real-life friends rather than online ones – you won’t miss the digital world one bit.
